Launchy and Firefox 3 bookmarks

i’ve been a big fan of Launchy for quite a while.  In fact, it’s probably one of my most used tools, especially at work.  However a while ago, after installing Firefox 3, I started noticing that new bookmarks I added didn’t seem to show up.  I didn’t think about it too much, until I tried to add a new bookmark for a Firefox quick search (my all-time favorite use of Launchy) and found that Launchy just wouldn’t pick it up.  A little digging revealed the cause:  Launchy was indexing the bookmarks from bookmarks.html in the Firefox profile directory, but in Firefox 3 the bookmarks are now stored in an SQLite database (places.sqlite in the profile directory) which Launchy is oblivious to.  Fortunately, Firefox 3 provides an about:config option to also add bookmarks to the bookmarks.html location as well, which works nicely to get Launchy back on track.  This works as a decent workaround until Launchy supports the new bookmark storage method.

New phone number

It’s been kind of nice having the same number for the past 5 years, even if it was with a Columbus area code here in Kansas City.  However, thanks to AT&T that’s no longer the case (and I suppose Apple shares some blame for leaving me with no other option but AT&T) and now I’ve got to remember any important things I registered for with my old number to update it, not to mention getting it out to friends and family.  I’ve sent out emails but I’m sure there’s people I’ve missed.  So, if you’ve still got a 614 number for me, that’s no longer the right one.  Send me an email or leave a comment and I’ll get you updated.

And we’re back

Ok, so I’m not sure why I switched the domain over right away instead of setting everything up on the new host and then changing the nameservers for the domain when I was done.  But, here we are: coaxialflutter is now running on Wordpress on Dreamhost.  I gave both Wordpress and Movable Type 4 a test drive, and while MT4 sure did look nicer than 3 I was more impressed with Wordpress overall.  Plus it seems to have the more active community for plugins and themes currently, which is a strong advantage.  The only real downside is that I’ve just broken anything that linked to my old MT style permalinks but let’s face it there probably wasn’t too much of that going on.
